Young Water Researchers Symposium (YoWaReS 2017) was a success!
On November 24, 2017, the Young Water Researchers Symposium - YoWaReS - was held for the first time at RTWH Aachen. The event, which was initiated by the Ph.D. students of the Forschungsverbund Project House Water, offered young scientists from water research and related disciplines the opportunity to present their own research, to discuss and to make new contacts.
More than 60 interested junior researchers from Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland exchanged professional knowledge and innovative ideas on the topic of water. Technical topics and analytical methods were discussed in a total of four topics in order to investigate pollutant loadings and distributions in waters and sediments and to investigate effects on adjacent ecosystems. The event also focused on methods of water treatment and the question of how high water quality can be achieved and secured, as well as an economic consideration of water management processes. The event was rounded off with presentations by speakers from RWTH Aachen as well as our esteemed keynotes:
Alexandra Brinke, Department of Biochemistry, Ecotoxicology; The German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG)
Dr. Emile Cornelissen, Process Engineering and Water Innovations; KWR Watercycle Research Institute, the Netherlands
Dr.-Ing. Gudrun Hillebrand, Groundwater, Geology, River Morphology; The German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG)
Prof. Henner Hollert, Institute for Environmental Research; RWTH Aachen University
Prof. Peter Letmathe, Management Accounting; RWTH Aachen
Prof. Holger Schüttrumpf, Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management; RWTH Aachen University
Prof. Thomas Wintgens, Environmental and Water Technologies; FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland
After the successful start, it is planned to make the Young Water Researchers Symposium an integral part of the event program of the Project House Water at RWTH Aachen in the years to come.
The team of YoWaReS would like to thank proRWTH Aachen e.V., MLP, and S.T.E.P. consulting GmbH for the financial support of this year’s event as well as all of the speakers and attendees that made this first year such a success!
